Types of Drug Rehab Programs
There is a wide variety of treatment options available for rehab, and it's often not easy to decide which program is going to give the best success rate. For the drug addicted person who is seeking help they may find it a difficult journey to find the proper rehab program and may go through several before they find relief from the drug. It's important to find a tailored program that will meet their needs in all aspects and not just treat the addiction itself.
Many drug addicts have found success with a short-term residential program of three to six months duration. And often intense program that follows a 12 step program with a patient assessed in the areas of physical, behavioral, mental and emotional addiction. The addict is then given a tailored treatment program incorporating those aspects. The 12-step program is mandatory, and they must attend meetings associated with the program and the addict's held to high accountability. Intense education and information is given to the addict who participates in the short-term residential program. Once released, outpatient services and out reach support is available for continual success.
If detoxification is needed for the drug addict, they will be offered a detoxification type program that will incorporate the proper licensed medicinal professionals. Detoxification can not only be painful and uncomfortable but actually biologically dangerous and needs to be overseen by professionals.
Long-term residential services are also available that may incorporate a living facility of a year or more. A long-term residential program is usually used with severe medical and psychological addiction. Tailored programs for long-term treatment offer not just emotional and medical support but also reentry programs into society's norms.
Outpatient treatment plans are also available for those who have a specific set of situations that do not allow them to take advantage of residential services. Many meetings and activities as well as counseling sessions are usually involved in an outpatient treatment plan and self-governing behavior is a must. It's important that the addict understand that although they are still out in society, they must continually strive to change their lifestyle in order to stay away from the stimulus of certain social situations.
It's important to understand that each program must treat on a whole health basis and not just the addiction itself. Drug addiction incorporates a lifestyle as well as mental, physical and biological aspects and each portion of the addicted persons lifestyle must be examined and rehabbed. The devastating effects of drug addiction is not only detrimental to the drug addict themselves but also incorporates all social aspects of their lives and any other individual involved in the addict's life.. A treatment program that treats not just the individual but also family and friends often has a better success rate than treating just the addict.
